MMOGs and chat

MMOGs, or Massively Multiplayer Online Games offer yet a couple of other flavors of chat. In some MMOG worlds, such as There.com and The SimsOnline, you use your keyboard and chat as you would in a regular chat room. The difference here is you there's a geographical metaphor in place – in other words you use a map to locate a place you want to visit, go there and find other people. They might be in houses, hanging out on the beach, working, hoverboarding, or carving gnomes. Other MMOGs, especially games played on console systems such as Microsoft's Xbox and Sony's Playstation 2. These platforms let you subscribe to a live service. You actually go in and play your game with other players. There are no keyboards for these console systems though, so all chatting is voice chatting. It can get pretty rough, so if you don't want to hear X-rated language, don't even bother hooking up the voice chat part of your live service.
